Mexico reviews Trump's tariff threat on steel, aluminum

MEXICO CITY, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum met with her economic team on Monday to discuss the latest tariff hikes proposed by her U.S. counterpart Donald Trump, who plans to double steel and aluminum tariffs to 50 percent starting Wednesday.

The government would await further details of Trump's announcement and provide an update accordingly, Sheinbaum said at her daily morning press conference.

Since March, Mexico has been in talks with the United States to secure preferential treatment and avoid the steep tariffs on steel and aluminum, Sheinbaum has stated on several occasions.
