Son of Mexican drug lord "El Chapo" pleads guilty in U.S. court

NEW YORK, July 11 (Xinhua) -- A son of now-jailed Mexican drug lord Joaquin Guzman Loera, alias "El Chapo," pleaded guilty in a U.S. federal court on Friday.

Ovidio Guzman Lopez, one of the four sons of "El Chapo," admitted to his role in the notorious Sinaloa Cartel's drug trafficking operation at the Dirksen federal courthouse in downtown Chicago, a city where cartel members made key inroads with local dealers.

Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman is serving a life sentence in the United States without the possibility of parole after being convicted in 2019 for his role as the former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel.
