ABU DHABI, 18th October, 2022 (WAM) -- The General Secretariat of the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation signed an MoU with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in the United States of Mexico for the organisation of the First Mexico International Date Palm Festival during the period 9-13 November 2022.

The signing ceremony took place (remotely) on Monday, in the presence of Ahmed Al Menhali, UAE Ambassador to Mexico; Luis Alfonso Garcia de Alba, Ambassador of Mexico to the UAE; Santiago Arguelo Campos, General Coordinator of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Mexico; and Dr. Abdelouahhab Zaid, Secretary General of the Khalifa Award.

Santiago Arguelo Campos welcomed the attendees, praising the efforts of the United Arab Emirates and the support of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court, in developing the date palm sector and the production, processing, and marketing of dates at the national, regional and international levels.

For his part, Ambassador Al Menhali pointed out to the importance of cooperation between the General Secretariat of the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation with the Ministry of Agriculture of Mexico in organising the First Mexico International Date Palm Festival with the aim of developing this promising sector in order to achieve the visions and goals of the two friendly countries.

Ambassador Luis Alfonso Garcia de Alba also welcomed the pioneering position that the UAE has achieved in the development of the date palm cultivation and date production sector at the national, regional and international levels, because of its importance in building bridges of cooperation between the two countries to enhance food security and to achieve a sustainable development.

For his part, Dr. Abdelouahhab Zaid, Secretary-General of the Award, explained that this MoU comes to confirm the international credibility achieved by the award thanks to the guidance and support of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court, and the follow-up of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, Chairman of the Award's Board of Trustees of the Award, as the most significant international platform for building partnerships related to the development of the date palm cultivation and date production sector at the national, regional and international levels.
