MEXICO CITY, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- Mexico's Health Ministry reported on Tuesday 8,819 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the nationwide tally to 1,122,362.

And 825 more deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours, raising the national count to 106,765, said the ministry.

World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned on Monday that "Mexico is in bad shape" with the COVID-19 pandemic, calling for immediate action to curb the surging cases.

"The number of increasing cases and deaths in Mexico is very worrisome," the WHO head told a press briefing in Geneva.
