BEIJING, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

BEIJING -- No new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases were reported Thursday across the Chinese mainland, the National Health Commission said Friday.

Meanwhile, eight confirmed COVID-19 cases arriving from outside the mainland were reported, the commission said in its daily report. (China-Health-Virus)

QUITO -- The Ecuadoran government has invested more than 219 million U.S. dollars in fighting COVID-19 through employing epidemiological monitoring strategies and strengthening the national health system, Health Minister Juan Carlos Zevallos said Thursday.

During a teleconference with the Americas Society and Council of the Americas, Zevallos said that to contain the spread of the virus, "it was essential" to activate and strengthen the nation's health facilities through expanding hospitals and adding beds to intensive care units. (Ecuador-COVID-19)

MEXICO CITY -- Mexico's COVID-19 death toll rose to 75,439 on Thursday, according to data released by the Health Ministry.

Meanwhile, the country's COVID-19 caseload reached 715,457, the ministry said. (Mexico-COVID-19)

BEIJING -- The National Health Commission said Friday that nine COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery on the Chinese mainland Thursday.

There were 166 patients still being treated, the commission said in its daily report. (China-Health-COVID-19)

ROME -- AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday.

The news came a day after Ibrahimovic's teammate Leo Duarte, a defender from Brazil, also tested positive for the disease. (Sports-Soccer-Ibrahimovic)
