Floods threaten first global warming islands
Mexico City News.Net Thursday 29th July, 2010
Residents of the Carteret Islands off Papua New Guinea have been pleading for help from the international community since their homes began sinking into the ocean.
The Carteret Islands, which have been described as the world's first climate change islands, are slowly disappearing under the Pacific Ocean.
Because rising water has been flooding crops and spoiling water supplies, islanders will soon be turned into refugees, with some already making for nearby Bougainville.
The few who have left are now pleading for help to save their relatives from sinking along with their island homes.
So far only two families out of the total population of 2,300 have moved to Bougainville.
The isolated islands are now suffering from food shortages and violence, with people fighting over the few resources available.
The Carteret Islanders have been in the news over the past few years because of the fact that they will be largely uninhabited by 2015 because of imminent flooding. Email this story to a friend

Sensational reporting
The sea level hasn’t rise in my place, the dyke which is 2 meter above sea level has been like this since time immemorial, so why this special island is below water? Are we living in different planet?

Little new
Vast swaths of land have been known to shrink for various reasons. Look it up.

I think not
Is al gore behind this. If the islands are sinking the people need to move. From what I can gather, the water level of the oceans has not risen for many years. Correct me if I am wrong.

Even Al Gore really doesn’t believe!
Considering he has bought several expensive mansions right on the beach!

Al Gore, Tipper Gore snap up Montecito-area villa
The Italian-style home has an ocean view, fountains, six fireplaces, five bedrooms and nine bathrooms.
April 28, 2010|Lauren Beale, Los Angeles Times
Former Vice President Al Gore and his wife, Tipper, have added a Montecito-area property to their real estate holdings, reports the Montecito Journal.
The couple spent $8,875,000 on an ocean-view villa on 1.5 acres with a swimming pool, spa and fountains, a real estate source familiar with the deal confirms. The Italian-style house has six fireplaces, five bedrooms and nine bathrooms.
Massive ocean rises/lowering have more to do with actual land movement verses the water physically raising or lowering as a result of climate change.
Only the simplest of uneducated buffons believes glacier melting will raise the level of ocean water.

nothuing that a few days with a bulldozer, wouldnt fix. Sacrifice a local sand or coral cay or two and barge the stuff to the inhabited islands and raise the level of the land.

There are several places where land is lower than sea naturally and can be used to mop up the sea rise. one is the danakil depression. pay the Ethiopians to make a canal into the DAnakil and create an inland sea which would benefit everyone.
