Aid institutions pleased with Zimbabwe decision

Mexico City News.Net
Friday 5th December, 2008

The international aid community has welcomed Zimbabwe's call for urgent financial aid to deal with a major cholera epidemic.

Zimbabwe has declared a national emergency in its appeal for medicine, water treatment tablets and money.

The Red Cross, which is struggling to reopen hospitals in the country, has said donors need to urgently step up to give aid.

The United States has already announced it will contribute more than $900,000.

Zimbabwe is currently struggling with food shortages.

The Red Cross has said more than 4 million people don't have access to enough food; a number that will soon climb to over 5 million.
